Kingstonian Dylan Wykes heading to the London Olympic Games
The Kingston Road Runners Association held a fundraiser for Kingston's own, Dylan Wykes, at the Kingston Brew Pub on Wednesday May 10th, 2012. The evening was a terrific get-together to raise money for Dylan's trip to the London Olympics. It was a commendable evening with over eleven thousand dollars raised to fund Dylan's trip.
Dylan is one of only three Canadian marathoners who qualified to race in the upcoming London Olympic Games.
Dylan Wykes is an accomplished long distance runner who was raised in Kingston Ontario and competed for Frontenac Secondary School, winning numerous OFSSAA events before heading to university where he competed nationally in the United States. Dylan is presently training in Vancouver BC and is being coached by Richard Lee.
Dylan qualified for the London Olympic games in Rotterdam Marathon on April 15th, 2012 with a time of 2:10:47. Qualifiers for Olympic marathons need to come in under 2:11:00. Dylan's qualifying time was his personal best and he is very excited to represent Canada in London.
The men's marathon will take place on the closing day as it is one of the original events and one of the most prestigious competitions dating back to the original Greek games. Canadians will be able to enjoy the race with an estimated start time of 11am here in Ontario (6am London time).
